A 39-year-old woman from Port Angeles was taken into custody on Sunday morning following a pursuit that ended when a Clallam County sheriff’s deputy utilized a patrol vehicle to halt the suspect's car as it entered opposing lanes in Carlsborg.

Authorities have identified the driver as Deidre Gonzalez. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

The sequence of events commenced shortly after 10 a.m. on September 6, 2026, when a Sequim police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle exhibiting erratic driving behavior while traveling northbound along Sequim Avenue.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver ignored the command to stop, instead accelerating to high speeds through Sequim. The vehicle traversed business parking lots recklessly before proceeding westward onto Highway 101.

Sequim officers established probable cause to arrest the driver on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Supervisors from both the Sequim Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office subsequently sanctioned the pursuit.

The suspect drove into a Carlsborg gas station, executed a turn, and began traveling eastward within the westbound lanes directly toward a high volume of oncoming traffic.

Deputy Torri Middlekauff, who had responded to assist local police, deployed her patrol vehicle to block the driver's path. The patrol vehicle impacted the passenger side of the suspect's car, rendering it inoperable.

Following the collision, the driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The deputy pursued her and effected the arrest without further incident.

Sequim police took custody of the woman and initiated an investigation into suspected DUI and felony second-degree assault involving a vehicle.

The Sheriff's Office stated that the suspect would be booked into the Clallam County Jail for DUI and second-degree assault.
